Impact Wrestling Recap 7/26/18

Eddie Edwards Makes a Statement

Austin Aries began Impact the way we have come to expect him to: by bragging about his victory over Moose at Slammiversary this past Sunday. He claimed that he and the Impact Wrestling promotion were phenomenal Sunday night, putting over himself (even as a heel) and Impact Wrestling. Aries followed that with challenging anyone to try and match his skill level or value. During his call out, Eddie Edwards snuck into the ring and pounded away at Aries with a kendo stick, before delivering a nasty DDT driving Aries’s head directly into the mat. Edwards has gone from babyface to an absolute maniac, defeating Sami Callihan and now Tommy Dreamer in a hardcore match and setting himself up to chase bigger fish like Austin Aries. This feud could get very interesting, very quickly. Stay tuned!

Tessa Blanchard Remains Hot

Four days after defeating Allie at Slammiversary in impressive fashion, Tessa Blanchard took on Rebel and gained a convincing victory. There continues to be a steady build to her following her short feud with Madison Rayne, and in time we should expect to see Tessa elevated to challenging for the Knockouts Championship. Look for the third generation superstar to make her impact (pun intended) in the coming months leading to Bound for Glory.

The Bone Soldier Leaves an Impression

Taiji Ishimori, also known as “The Bone Soldier,” took on Petey Williams in what was the best match of the night. Two of the most athletic members of the Impact roster showcased their incredible abilities in a back and forth affair. Coming off of a highly entertaining fatal four way at Slammiversary, the two superstars showed no signs of exhaustion. Williams tried multiple times to hit his Canadian Destroyer unsuccessfully, and eventually fell victim to Ishimori’s finisher in a hard fought loss. Following the match, the Desi Hit Squad attacked both men, making another statement and establishing themselves as a top team in Impact Wrestling.

Allie Challenges Su Yung

In a backstage interview, Allie blamed herself for what happened to Madison Rayne at Slammiversary after Rayne was defeated by Su Yung and stuffed into a casket. She said she is willing to fight Yung and her undead bridesmaids alone, however Kiera Hogan piped up to ensure Allie she will not have to do it alone. Although Allie was defeated at Slammiversary and had her shot at the Knockouts title, she will face Yung and an undead bridesmaid next week with Hogan. It seems as though Allie may make another stab at winning the ever elusive Knockouts title.

Rematch for the X Division Title

Matt Sydal and Brian Cage fought in the main event of the evening in a rematch from Slammiversary. Brian Cage again displayed the freakish athleticism his 280 pound frame is capable of. The match was another solid showing after a barn burner of a match just 4 days earlier. Cage was able to retain the title, and it will be interesting to see who is next feud may be with. Best guess could be Pentagon Jr. or Sami Callihan, but stay tuned to find out!

Johnny Impact Returns to the Impact Zone

After his in ring return at Slammiversary, Johnny Impact faced off against Trevor Lee in a surprisingly entertaining match. Everyone knows that Johnny Impact can go in the ring, but a lot of people are unaware of Trevor Lee’s in ring abilities. The two put on quite a show, with Impact picking up the victory. After his win, Impact called out Kongo Kong, stating they have some unfinished business to take care of. It is interesting that they are bringing this feud back, but it is good to see old storylines reincorporated after not seeing Johnny Impact or Kongo Kong much recently.
