I hate the Redskins, but… (Hefty's view)

Brian and Bill have opposing views on the naming of the NFL team in Washington DC (they actually play in Maryland, but let’s not let geography get in the way). Now, it’s my turn.
Let me make myself abundantly plain. I hate the Washington Redskins about as much as I despise the New York Yankees. Don’t ask me why. I just do. But I believe the team should be allowed to keep the name — or change it when they’re good and ready.
Why?
Because people need to quit getting offended so easily. All too often, this group or that group has a grievance over something someone said or did. Sticks & Stones…
Because politicians should stay out of sports.
Because a football team that has been around for 82 years ought to be able to determine their own legacy and destiny. Longevity allows for some leeway.
Because politicians should stay out of sports.
Because no one is talking about the insipid, monolithic, intellect-draining chant that the fans of the FSU Seminoles and Atlanta Braves spout every chance they get. I’m more offended at the noise than the names.
Because politicians should stay out of sports.
Because one of these days, the Eagles, Bears, Lions, Jaguars, and others will have to change their names because they’re a predatory animal. Can’t have anyone following the example of predators, now can we?
Because politicians should stay out of sports.
Because eventually the 49ers will have to rid themselves of the moniker of greedy capitalists who risked everything for a bag of gold. And don’t even start about the battle between Patriots and Buccaneers.
Because politicians should stay out of sports.
Because football is a sport that entails rough-and-tumble, not innocuous and soothing.
Because politicians should stay out of sports.
Because even the name of Buffalo Snowflakes is going to offend someone.
Because politicians should stay out of sports.
Because the Snyder clan should tell everyone to pound sand.
And did I mention that politicians should stay out of sports?
