Houston, We are a Go! A World Series Game 1 Recap

Hello everyone, if you are talking or blogging about baseball this time of year than you are doing something right!

Welcome to the 2019 World Series our Washington Nationals versus the Houston Astros. It’s been a long road to get here, 30 spring training games, 160 two regular-season games and about 13 postseason games.

On a side note, I got to say I love the uniform match up here tonight, the Nationals blue alternate road jerseys with the white script and red numbers are absolutely gorgeous.

Tonight’s pitchers are Garret Cole Vs Max Scherzer, Joe Buck and friends are calling the game on FOX.

Not much in the 1st inning except Trea Turner steals a base, so everyone gets a free stuff.

Yuli Gurriel gets a 2-RBI double and the Astros strike first, 0-2.

Ryan Zimmerman, former Harrisburg Senator, answered with a blast, 1st World series HR for the Nats, 1-2.

Both pitchers settle down and go through 2nd and 3rd innings without trouble.

In the 4th Washington new Savior, Juan Soto ties the game with a solo shot, 2-2.

Scherzer faces the heart of the Astros lineup and doesn’t flinch and end of the 4th. Altuve, Springer and Carrara all set down , this is what you want out of your Game 1 pitcher

In the 5th, Adam Eaton gets a RBI single to give the Nats their first WS lead, in case you haven’t noticed there’s going to be a lot of first ever in the series.

Then Juan Soto does it again, 2-RBI DOUBLE to give the Nats some breathing room. 5-2 Nats through 5.

Juan Soto has 3 RBIs on the night, and factored in 4 of the Nats 5 runs and he is only 20!!

Scherzer’s night comes to a end at 5 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, both earned, 3 walks and seven strikeouts, not bad.

In comes Patrick Corbin and Cole is still in the game with a ERA of 6!

The Astros get a run in each of the seventh and eighth Innings, to make this interesting at 5-4, starting to sweat a little bit here in Houston even though it’s a very pleasant 73° in Texas.

Doctor Doolittle comes in to close the door, uno, dos, audios Houston!

NATIONALS WIN GAME 1

Winning Pitcher, Max Scherzer

Losing Pitcher: Cole with a ERA 6.87, ugh

Final Thoughts, The Usual Suspects came through for the Nationals tonight when they needed them, Juan Soto continued to be on an absolute tear this postseason with a run and three RBIs.

Ryan Zimmerman hitting the first home run in Nationals history was very appropriate considering he was one of the original Nationals drafted.

Max went out there and did his job, he may have gotten roughed up early, but he calmed down and got through 5 innings and let the bullpen do the rest. While the Nationals didn’t chase Cole early, they got to him in the middle innings and that is a continuing Trend that the Nationals will have to do for the rest of the series. Force Houston to get into their Bullpen early and leave their starters in 5-7 innings.

Lastly, thank Trea Turner for a free taco

Game 2 is tonight in Houston, let’s take two in Texas!
