Hershey falls short to Lehigh Valley in 5-1 loss.

The Hershey Bears were in Allentown Friday night to take on The Lehigh Valley Phantoms and would find their fifth straight loss for the season against the orange and black.

Nicolas Aube-Kabel would earn the first goal for Lehigh Valley after deflecting a shot from Greg Carey with less than six seconds left in the first period. It wouldn’t be soon after that a scoring frenzy would open up and the Bears would quickly be down by five goals.

With a power play goal at 5:36 in the second period Travis Sanheim would make it 2-0, after Bears captain Garret Mitchell went to the box for high-sticking. Soon after, Vanecek would leave his crease at 7:07 in the second getting stuck behind his own net. The puck would quickly find the stick of Cole Bardreau just in front of the goal, and with a pass to Corban Knight the game was 3-0. Former Bear, Chris Conner, would widen Lehigh Valley’s gap on a breakaway goal at 9:29 giving Lehigh Valley a 4-0 lead. This would bring Hershey’s coaches to end Vanecek’s night and bring in goaltender Pheonix Copley to finish out the evening. Corban Knight would score his second goal of the game with less than three minutes left in the period to send the Bears to the locker room for second intermission down by five goals.

Dustin Gazley scored Hershey’s only goal at 11:14 in the final period, ruining Lyon’s chance at his first shutout of the season. The lone goal wouldn’t be enough and Hershey would drop to Lehigh Valley 5-1.

This loss brings Hershey’s record to 10-23-3-4. Hershey outshot Lehigh Valley 31-25. The Hershey Bears will be back at home tomorrow Saturday February 10th to take on the Hartford Wolf Pack. This could bring possible starts from their new teammates Joe Whitney and Adam Chapies acquired from trades that took place on Friday morning. Puck drops at 7pm and all fans will receive a Papa John’s pizza voucher at the gates.
