Hershey Bears start seven game road trip with three western conference teams

If the schedule to start the season looks similar to last season…well that’s because it does. The Hershey Bears start their second weekend of hockey going to the Midwest. The road trip starts tonight with a game against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Last year, the Bears won their first game of the 2017-18 season in October at Van Andel Arena. Can the Bears answer a 4-2 final over Grand Rapids last season with another victory this season?

Tonight, Logan Pyett return’s to Grand Rapids to see his former team and teammates for the first time. Pyett played for the Griffins for four seasons from 2008-2012. During the tenure with the Griffins Logan played in 288 games. Logan scored 23 goals and 70 assists. We have yet to see Logan Pyett this season. So far Pyett’s highlight has been opening night when he was announced as a member of the team on opening night. The first game Pyett plays in will be his first in the AHL since April 20, 2013.

After being in Michigan on Friday (which will be shown for FREE on facebook Watch from the AHL facebook page) the Bears then head to Milwaukee on Saturday to take on the Admirals. Milwaukee will pose a tough threat. It would be tough playing them on a Wednesday fresh, let alone playing them on the second part of a three game weekend.  To finish off the weekend the Bears head to Rockford to play the Icehogs on Sunday. This mid west trip is identical to last seasons early trip to face some tough competition.

The rest of the seven game road trip is tricky as well. There are two game with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins on October 17th and 26th. Smashed in the middle of the two Penguins games is two Checkers games in Charlotte on October 19th and 20th.

Hershey Bears game note from HersheyBears.com: In Hershey’s opener on October 6, eight different players made their AHL debut with the Bears. Players debuting were forwards Shane Gersich, Beck Malenstyn, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Garrett Pilon, Sergei Shumakov, Maxi Kammerer and Brian Pinho, along with goaltender Ilya Samsonov.

Here is this weeks “perched on the ice” hockey podcast previewing the Hershey Bears road trip.
