Frederick Keys Weekly Recap: 5/2 to 5/8

The Keys open this week 8-17 looking to put together a winning streak this week to get closer to being above .500. Here is a recap of each of the games this week.

Game 1: 5/2/18: Salem 0 Frederick 3
The Keys get the shutout. The pitching was fantastic. Christian Alvarado goes 5.2 innings allowing no runs on 6 hits and a walk. He strikes out 8. Erwin, Kline, and Teague allow no runs on 1 hit.
Preston Palimeiro accounts for all 3 runs, hitting a 2-run homer and doubling in a run. Christian Alvarado is the player of the game for this one.

Game 2: 5/3/18: Salem 3 Frederick 8
Brian Gonzalez gets the quality start going 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits and striking out 6. There were several contributors on the offensive side for this one but Preston Palimeiro again is the plays of the game. (2-4, 2 RBIs, 1 BB)

Game 3: 5/4/18: Frederick 8 Wilmington 3
Ofelky Peralta starts off going 5.2 innings, allowing 4 earned runs, striking out 4 but walking 5. Keeping his walks to a limit will be a challenge for him this year. Ryan McKenna goes 2-3 and 2 RBIs to improve his average to .330. He is really playing well to start the year. The defense makes 3 errors and the offense couldn’t score enough runs to back the defense up.

Game 4: 5/5/18: Frederick 12 Wilmington 9
The Keys allowed more runs than they would have liked however the offense came in clutch scoring 12 runs to win the game. Ryan McKenna is the player of the game, going 3-5 with a walk and 2 RBIs.
Jhon Peluffo only goes 3.2 innings, allowing 4 earned runs. The bullpen also gave up many runs but once again, the offense backed up the defense and the pitching and won the game.

Game 5: 5/6/18: Frederick 3 Wilmington 2
The Keys get the one from behind victory, being down 2-0 in the 8th and then scoring 2 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th to win. Alex Wells starts off going 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 6. Teague and Trowbridge allow 1 hit in 3 combined innings to keep the Keys in the game. The player of the game goes to the shortstop, Chris Clare, going 2-4 with an RBI.

Game 6: 5/7/18: Lynchburg 1 Frederick 6
Jonathan Schoop makes a rehab appearance in Frederick and makes an impact, he goes 1-3 with 2 RBIs. Christian Alvarado starts off going 6 innings allowing 1 earned run as striking out 2. Tyler Erwin goes 3 scoreless innings to improve his ERA to .49. He struck out 6. The catcher, Yohjan Quevedo, gets the player of the game in this one going 2-4, 2 RBIs, HR)

Game 7: 5/8/18: Lynchburg 1 Frederick 9
The Keys take a no-hitter into the 9th inning! Brian Gonzalez goes 7 innings of no hit baseball striking out 7. Elvis Araujo gives up a walk then a double soon after to allow one run. But they finish with a 1 hitter. Quevedo goes 2-4 again with an RBI. Randolph Gassaway hits his first home run of the year. Jomar Reyes goes 2-5 with an RBI also. The player of the game in this one goes to Brian Gonzalez 7 innings, 7 K’s and no hits.

The Keys have a solid 6-1 week but still have work to do being 4 games under .500. If the Keys can continue to play like they played this week, the Keys could be on top of the division very soon.
