Frederick Keys weekly recap: 4/25-5/1

The Frederick Keys start this week off 5 games below .500 with a 7-12 record. Here is a recap from each of the games. Hopefully the Keys can bounce back.

Game 1: 4/25/18: Frederick 0 Salem 6
The Keys get shut out, Alex Wells gives up 4 earned runs on 5 hits in 5 innings. The offense only gets one hit across the board… that player Collin Woody gets the player of the game… going 1-3.

Game 2: 4/25/18: Frederick 2 Salem 7
The Keys once again don’t hit, and don’t pitch well. Christian Alvarado allows 7 earned runs in 5 innings. The Keys only put together 2 hits and Preston Palmeiro gets the player of the game going 1-3 with a RBI.

Game 3: 4/26/18: Frederick 4 Salem 9
Another game where the Keys continue to struggle. The offense does not score until the 7th inning and the pitching wasn’t great either. Lucas Humpal goes just 4 innings allowing 3 earned runs and Matt Trowbridge allows 3 earned runs in just 2/3 of an inning. Scott Burke also allowed 3 earned runs. It’s tough to say who the player is the game is in a lot of these but for this one it goes to Cole Billingsley (1-4, 2 RBI, 1 BB)

Game 4: 4/27/18: Frederick 0 Buies Creek 4
The Keys get 1-hit again and fall to the Bluies Creek Astros. Hopefully this game is a sign that the pitching is back and can keep the offense in the ballgames. Brian Gonzalez goes 6 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) he is the player of the game.

Game 5: 4/28/18: Frederick 4 Buies Creek 9
The offense finally starts hitting the ball but the pitching can’t keep up. The offense strings together 9 hits but the Keys give the Astros way too many runs. Ofelky Peralta starts off not pitching too well going 3.1 innings with 8 runs (5ER) striking out 2 and walking 2. The player of the game goes to Ryan McKenna who improves his batting average to .341 on the year, goes 2-3 with 2 walks and a RBI.

Game 6: 4/29/18: Frederick 9 Buies Creek 4
The Keys finally get on the same page for this one and win a game. The Buies Creek Astros did not score until the 8th inning which is a good sign for the pitching staff. Jhon Peluffo starts off going 5 scoreless innings only allowing 3 hits. The offense wakes up and the most impressive stat line was Collin Woody going 3-5 and an RBI. He is the player of the game.

Game 6: 5/1/18: Salem 5 Keys 2
Alex Wells doesn’t pitch his best allowing 5 earned runs in 6 innings of work… He also had 6 strikeouts. The bullpen put together 3 scoreless innings of no hit baseball.
Several players in the lineup ended up with hits but they could not seem to capitalize. Jomar Reyes is the player of the game going 3-5 and an RBI.

The Keys did not play well this week causing them to fall into a deeper hole. They will need to get the offense and the pitching on the same page.
