Former Oriole Jason Hammel retires at age 36

Former Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher, Jason Hammel, has officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball. Hammel, who turned 36 in September, signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers this offseason.

Hammel played 13 years in professional baseball. He played for the Tampa Bay Rays, Colorado Rockies, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals, and Texas Rangers.

Hammel pitched for Baltimore in 2012 and 2013. He had a combined 15-14 record with the Orioles with a 3.43 ERA in 2012 and a 4.97 ERA in 2013. He also helped the club get back to the post-season in 2012, pitching in Games 1 and 5 of the American League Division Series.
