Fans welcome back Machado, Orioles fall to Padres 8-3: Recap 6/25/19

The Baltimore Orioles hosted the San Diego Padres to start a two-game set, and a familiar face made his return to Baltimore in Manny Machado.

Jimmy Yacabonis got the start, and his outing did not last long. Yacabonis went just 2.2 innings, allowing five runs off five hits.

Trey Mancini got the Orioles on the board first, with an RBI single that scored Hanser Alberto in the first inning.

The Padres would put up four in the second inning, including a two-run shot off the bat of Fernando Tatis Jr. This put the Padres up 4-1.

In the third inning, Manny Machado recieved another heartwarming ovation as he came up for his second at-bat. Manny homered on the first pitch, his 100th home run at Camden Yards and his third longest in at the ballpark. This extended the lead to 5-1.

The Birds would get a run back in the third, when Dwight Smith Jr. scored Jonathan Villar on his 13th double of the season. This cut the Orioles’ deficit to 5-2.

Josh Rogers would give up two more runs in the fourth, including another RBI for Manny Machado. Rogers then gave up a solo home run in the fifth to give the Padres an 8-2 lead.

Richie Martin showed some power in the seventh, hitting his third home run on a long 3-2 count to opposite right field. This cut the Padre lead for good to 8-3.

Our MSB Orioles Player of the Game is Hanser Alberto, who went 4-for-5 at the plate and scored a run in the losing effort.

Jimmy Yacabonis takes the loss and moves to 1-2 on the season.

The Orioles wrap up this two game set Wednesday, at 3:05 p.m. ET.
