Doss and Thompson stepping up

400px-Tandon_Doss_MT_Stadium_2012_PracticeThe Baltimore Ravens were down to three active receivers on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins but the receivers still played well. Both Tandon Doss and Deonte Thompson also did return duties and were on the field for most of game.

Tandon Doss was forced into starting duty after being cut before the season. Taking a look at Doss’ game he played sensational both as a return man and a receiver. Doss had three receptions, two of those receptions were very hard. Doss had to make a diving catch on his first reception with a Dolphins player all over him, and he made the first down. Doss also made a fantastic catch on his 40 yard reception.

Doss had an impressive first start for the Ravens. Remember he was expected to be the number third wide receiver coming into training camp but a poor preseason got him cut before the season did not start. The Ravens resigned him after Jacoby Jones went down in the season opener at Denver.

Earlier I did a post on Doss and the troubles he was having.  Again very talented player but he was missing a connection with Flacco.

Thompson only had two receptions for 11 yards but drew a big pass interference penalty. Thompson was also fantastic returning kicks, he had a 47 yard kick return and 128 yards on kick returns. Thompson is the fastest Ravens, he missed a lot of time due to a foot injury that occurred in the preseason.

It was nice to both these inexperienced players step up. The Ravens are deep at wide receiver talent not wide receiver experience. The more they get to play with Joe Flacco the more effective they will become.
