D.C. United wins Capital Cup

D.C. United hosted the inaugural Capital Cup last week at Audi Field and protected their home turf winning both of their games. There was supposed to be three teams but COVID had other ideas. The team that got COVID protocols violated got reinstated and they’ll play the Black and Red Wednesday in an international friendly. D.C. United played Liga Deportiva Alajuelense in both games with identical 1-0 scores to win 2-0 on aggregate.

D.C. United would win the first matchup 1-0 thanks to Felipe’s free kick goal in the final minutes. With some players competing internationally, D.C. United’s roster featured a mix of some of their varsity guys along with players from their farm club Loudoun United FC. Felipe’s kick came in the 87th minute.

D.C. United won Sunday’s match 1-0 with the lone goal coming in the 68th minute from Jovanny Bolivar beating two defenders and slotting one in from 18 yards.

D.C. United will take on Alianza FC on Wednesday.
