D.C. United Recap: 7/31-8/8

D.C. United was in action three times since we last talked about soccer on MSB. They acquired points in all three contests. Let’s break down each one.

7/31 at FC Cincinnati 0-0

Despite the scoreless draw, the Black and Red came away with a point.

8/4 at Columbus W 4-2

The Black and Red got six points after that initial point beginning with three points on the road in Columbus. Ola Kamara made it 1-0 in the 19th minute. The Black and Red doubled their lead in the 40th minute with Yordy Reyna heading home his first goal with D.C. United. Kamara added his second goal of the night on a penalty kick that made it 3-0 right before half-time. The Crew would score in the 65th and 71st minutes to cut the deficit to one before United answered right back.

Yordy Reyna beat the opposing goaltender on the left corner from just outside the box to give United an insurance goal. The Black and Red would then hang on for the 4-2 win.

8/8 vs. Montreal W 2-1

D.C. United returned home for a big game on Sunday night and delivered with a 2-1 win over CF Montreal in their 18th match of the MLS regular season. It gave them their 27th point of the season and one point away from third in the Eastern Conference. The team has really turned it on. The 16th minute found United in an early 1-0 deficit but the team turned it around thanks to two unanswered goals. Those came from Andy Najar and Ola Kamara.

In the 40th minute Najar headed one home off a pass from Julian Gressel for his first goal for D.C. United since September 29, 2011. The teams went into halftime tied at one. The Black and Red took the lead on a goal from Kamara in the 54th minute. They would hang on to win 2-1 to get them the critical three points. D.C. United’s next match is against Nashville SC on Sunday at 7 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington.
