D.C. United plays to scoreless draw with FC Cincinnati

D.C. United needed a win to host a home MLS Cup playoff match at Audi Field when the tournament begins. However, for the second straight week, D.C. United nor their opponent could find the back of the net. The result was a scoreless draw.

In a contest that Wayne Rooney was suspended in after receiving a yellow card against the New York Red Bulls, the packed crowd all decked out in black was stunned at the end. Now Rooney may not even get a chance to play at Audi Field one final time.

There is a silver lining that the Black and Red are unbeaten in their last five but being held off the scoresheet the last two weeks is always tough and that won’t work when the playoffs start. D.C. United fired away 32 shots but only two of those were on target.

D.C. United entered the day in fourth place in the Eastern Conference but dropped to fifth and was leapfrogged by Toronto FC, who they’ll meet in the playoffs. The game is on either Saturday Oct. 19 or Sunday Oct. 20.
