D.C. United Looks to Get Back on Track in Colorado

D.C. United hopes to score a goal but has bigger aspirations of securing three points. It’s two things that they haven’t done in almost two weeks. D.C. United was shutout twice on their home pitch of Audi Field, something of a rarity with the top notch homefield advantage of that stadium. The first one resulted in a loss to the top team LAFC one week ago. The second was a scoreless draw against the Montreal Impact on Tuesday night.

One big positive from this slide is Bill Hamid posted a clean sheet on Tuesday, his fourth of the season to tie Zach Steffen for the most shutouts in the league. Another positive that will take place heading into Saturday will be Wayne Rooney’s return. He received a red card in the LAFC loss and had to sit out the last match.

Rooney will also meet both his old teammate and opponent when he goes up against Colorado Rapids goalie Tim Howard. The two spent 10 years in the English Premier League from 2005-2015 in a stretch of eight games as teammates on Manchester United and then the other 13 matches as opponents. Rooney’s first career goal with the Black and Red came against Howard last season.

D.C. United is 3-2-1 with 11 points in second place in the Eastern Conference. They’re just two points behind first place Columbus. Colorado is 0-2-4, still hunting for their first win. Kickoff is at 9 p.m. and you can catch the game on FloFC.
