D.C. United hosts sporting KC on Mother’s Day

D.C. United continue their homestand at Audi Field looking to win their second consecutive match when they host Sportng Kansas City. Last Saturday the Black and Red defeated the Columbus Crew 4-1 that snapped a three-game winless drought.

After Columbus thought they had the early edge with a goal from Petro Santos, it was overturned on video replay becuase of a foul leading up to the goal. Luciano Acosta struck in the 27th minute with a tap in deflectoin from a free kick. Replay struck again before the half with a handball and Wayne Rooney doubled the lead on the PK. D.C. United added to their lead in the 61st minute with a goal from Paul Arriola.

Sporting Kansas City is coming off a 3-0 shutout loss against defending MLS Cup Champions Atlanta United. They have struggled with a 2-4-3 record with 10 points and haven’t won a single match on the road.

D.C. United is second in the Eastern Conference with a 6-2-3 record for 20 points. They’re just three points behind the Philadelphia after they defeated Toronto FC 2-1 on Saturday.

These two teams have met 55 previous times but Sunday’s 56th time marks the first time these two have met in D.C. United’s new home. Kickoff from Audi Field is at 7:25 p.m. Take your mom to the game or watch on FS1.
