D.C. United gets shutout 1-0 in Vancouver

D.C. United fell 1-0 in Vancouver on Saturday night in a frustrating contest despite leading in both possession and shots 24-8. They couldn’t get anything past Vancouver Whitecaps goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.

All the Whitecaps needed was a goal and they got it early in the 18th minute from Yordy Reyna.

D.C. United fought hard but it was just one of those nights where the ball just didn’t bounce their way. They did have the edge in passing accuracy 85%-72% and were strong on the attacking half 77%-59%.

Wayne Rooney told the media that the team still played well despite coming up short.

“Very good, thought we were by far the better team, created the better chances and very, very unlucky not to get anything out of the game,” said Rooney.

The Black and Red had the chance for the equalizer late in the game from a header by Luciano Acosta off the corner, but it hit the post and Crepeau snatched it.

D.C. United looks to bounce back this Wednesday at Audi Field at 8 p.m.
