D.C. United at Toronto FC Recap: October 19, 2019

D.C. United rallied and scored in the final minutes of stoppage time to for extras but they couldn’t overcome a Toronto FC attack as they bow out in the first round of the 2019 MLS Cup playoffs. The home team scored four goals in the extra session and the Black and Red couldn’t recover. The defeat also marked the final game for Wayne Rooney in a D.C. United uniform.

Marco Delgado got the hosts on the board in the 32nd minute and that was the score heading into the half. It was all Toronto FC until the final minutes. That’s when Lucas Rodriguez came through in stoppage time.

On a corner kick by Rooney, a kick from Frederic Brillant was deflected right in by Lucas Rodriguez to tie the game in the 93rd minute.

Despite the thrilling goal to force a tie, Toronto FC stormed in overtime with a goals from Richie Laryea, Jonathan Osorio twice and former D.C. United player Nick DeLeon.
