Commanders win a thriller against Jacksonville 28 – 22!!

The Commanders offense started the 2022 season off with a bang by scoring two touchdowns on the first two drives of the game. Then the offense went cold and had three turnovers two being interceptions by Wentz. Wentz bounced back from the interceptions and lead the Commanders on two touchdown drives leading them to victory.

Offense looks good minus the turnovers

The offense was firing on all cylinders the first two drives of the game. The opening drive was 8 plays for 74 yards and was capped off by a 3 yard touchdown pass to Curtis Samuel. The second drive was 14 plays for 71 yards and finished with a 7 yard touchdown pass to Jahan Dotson. Then the wheels fell off until the fourth quarter. It started with a fumble before halftime by Samuel on a drive that looked promising. Then on back to back possession Wentz threw interceptions, which lead to Jacksonville scoring a field goal and a touchdown. Wentz would bounce back though by throwing two touchdowns on back to back drives again. Wentz finished the game throwing for 313 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. If the Commanders can protect the ball better this offense can be really good.

Bend but don’t break!

This defense is going to have a bend but don’t break mentality this season. The linebacking and secondary groups aren’t good enough to cover between the 20’s, but in the red zone they stiffen up. They held Jacksonville to two field goal attempts and a turnover on downs in the red zone. If the defense can do this all season I’ll be happy with it, but if they start giving up touchdowns instead of field goals it’s going to be a long season. The defense did force one turnover and it came on Jacksonvilles last drive, which sealed the game for the Commanders. Now for the D-line they pressured Trevor Lawerence all day and sacked him twice. This was better than I expected with Chase young being out, but its good to see.

Takeaways and look ahead

This offense has the talent to put up some points if they protect the ball better. Defensively the Commanders needs to create some more turnovers and continue its bend but don’t break mentality. If the Commanders can do this they will be a solid team. All in all the Commanders got the win and can move on to the next game happy. Next week the Commanders travel to Detroit and take on the Lions at 1:00 pm on fox. Today the Lions lost a close game against the Eagles today with the final score being 38-35 Eagles. For now I’ll enjoy this win and leave you with Ron Riveras locker room speech after the game. #HTTC
