College Basketball Preview: UMBC (9-7, 1-0) vs. Hartford (7-8)

The UMBC men’s basketball team will take on the Hartford Hawks (7-8) tonight, in their first road contest in America East conference play.  

The Retrievers (9-7, 1-0) are led by graduate student forward Joe Sherburne who averages just over 14 points per game, with sophomore forward Bandon Horvath chipping in nearly 12 points per game.  Junior guard K.J. Jackson leads the team with 66 assists and 35 steals .

The Retrievers defeated the Maine Black Bears (2-14, 0-1), 61-52, in their conference opener on January 5th at the UMBC Event Center.

This will be Hartford’s America East opener.  The Hawks have won four of the past five games and they are led by senior forward John Carrol who averages nearly 16 points per game.

UMBC won all three meetings with the Hawks last season, sweeping their regular season match-ups and defeating them 75-60 at the UMBC Event Center in the America East tournament semifinals.

Tip –off tonight at Chase Arena is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
