Chesapeake Bayhawks Winning on the Field, and in the Community

July 2nd was the Chesapeake Bayhawks annual Hometown Heros & Military Appreciation Night, but this year, there was a somber twist; Thursday afternoon the Annapolis community was rocked when a disturbed man injured 20, killed five, at the Capital Gazette building. Within minutes of the first phone calls, numerous departments showed up; FBI, Department of Natural Resources, Annapolis Police, Anne Arundel County Police, Maryland State Police, Annapolis Fire Department, and more, came to the rescue.

There was a pre-game ceremony that recognized and thanked all who responded to the scene, and took a moment of silence for those we have lost in our community. Governor Larry Hogan shared his gratitude for the first responders, and thanked the Bayhawks for supporting and recognizing the hometown heros each year. Governor Hogan then proceeded to give the Bayhawks a proclamation citation for their efforts.

With a chilling, deep introduction to the night, it was only right for the Bayhawks to come out on top.

The Boston Cannons struck first, but the Bayhawks were quick to respond. A second set of volley went on, until the Bayhawks scored their third goal of the night, which put them on top, and never lost the lead.

Local product Colin Heacock was the PMSI (Pest Management Services) Player of the Game with a hattrick and an assist, while goalie Niko Amato was the Mallary Carpet Defensive Player of the Game with 13 saves; allowed eight goals on 21 shots.

With the win, the Bayhawks are now .5 game behind league leader Dallas Rattlers. The Rattlers have four games left in the season while the Bayhawks have five.
