It was refreshing for Nat’s fans to have something to cheer about coming off a series against the Braves in which they were swept. The Nat’s certainly got their bats going tying a Nationals team record for most extra-base hits and triples tonight.

Should the Nationals be concerned about Harper and Strasburg?

HarperBryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg haven’t gotten off to quite the start most National’s fans would have hoped, but is it time to panic this early in the season? It may be a bit premature to be overly concerned but I am finding myself more concerned about Strasburg than Harper.

On a positive note, Bryce Harper has had no trouble in the field this season; his struggles have come at the plate. I am not overly concerned about this for a couple of reasons. First off, hitting slumps happen; it’s nothing out of the ordinary. Secondly, Harper has far too much talent for it to continue.

Nationals Avoid Sweep with 2-1 Win Over Braves

1024px-9TH_Bryce_HarperJust one week ago Matt Williams and the Nationals celebrated a memorable opening series sweep of the Mets at Citi Field. Yesterday they fought to avoid being swept by the Braves at Nationals Park, pulling out a nail-biting 2-1 win.

With Ryan Zimmerman out due to shoulder inflammation, Bryce Harper struggling at the plate and other setbacks, the first week of the season has been an unsteady one. However, the Nats’ pitching continues to be a notable positive.

Wilson Ramos out 4-6 weeks

Washington Nationals catcher, Wilson Ramos injured his hand in the opener against the Mets. Ramos had surgery on his hand Wednesday to repair a broken hamate bone in his left hand. This is a hamate bone in case you were wondering. Ramos is expected to miss 4-6 weeks and was placed on the 15-day DL Wednesday afternoon retroactive to April 1.

According to manager, Matt Williams, “Everything went fine.” Ramos was productive when not sidelined with injury last year hitting .272/.307/.470 and 16 homers plus 59 RBIs in 78 games.

Nationals Opening Day 25-man Roster

File:9TH Bryce Harper.jpgThe Washington Nationals have released their 25-man opening day roster and there are not too many surprises. With Doug Fister being placed on the 15-day DL,Tanner Roark and Taylor Jordan both made the roster. Roark and Jordan were battling this spring for the 5th spot in the rotation. Both will be in the rotation until Fister comes back. Unsurprisingly Stephen Strasburg will be on the mound Monday in New York for opening day, while Roark will start in the home opener.

In an anonymous poll of MLB players Bryce Harper was voted the most overrated player in baseball. It’s hard to believe that a rookie of the year could be considered overrated.  Harper needs to have a great season if he wants to shut up his haters. Harper had a sub par spring hitting .239 with 2 hrs in 46 abs.
