Cruz Hits League Leading 21st Homer in 8-3 Victory For Orioles

Although the final score might reflect a somewhat comprehensive victory for the Baltimore Orioles, Tuesday night’s game started out as a pitching duel between Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez and Texas Rangers pitcher, and former Oriole, Joe Saunders. The two starters combined for three earned runs in the first six innings of the game.

While Jimenez failed to qualify for a quality start, as he only pitched 5 2/3 innings, the Dominican born pitcher only gave up one run in the game. Jimenez once again had to fight through control issues, throwing 101 pitches (62 for strikes) in his 5 2/3 innings of work.

What a great trade for Cuellar and Astros series review

There some signs to his upcoming stardom. Like the year we won the World Series in 1966. Off in Houston was a Cuban left-hander named Mike Cuellar. Cuellar struck out 15 that evening and went home with a 3-2 win. Read more about What a great trade for Cuellar and Astros series review

Orioles select the contract of Santana and place him on the DL

The Baltimore Orioles have selected the contract of Johan Santana and have played him on the 15-day DL.  The Orioles had until midnight tonight to decide what to do with Santana.  Santana had an opt out clause in his contract that the Orioles were worried about.

Santana has progressed greatly in his rehab and the Orioles will likely need his to be a starter.  Santana’s experience will likely add to the Orioles.

Here is the Orioles press release.
