Delmarva Shorebirds Weekly Roundup 4/14-4/21

The Delmarva Shorebirds have started to cool off after their blazing 8-1 start to the season. This past week they finished up their series with the Lakewood Blue Claws, traveled to Hagerstown to battle the Suns, and came back home to face off against the Blue Claws again. Delmarva Shorebirds Weekly Roundup: April 5th 2018-April 13th 2018

The Delmarva Shorebirds are having a historic start to the 2018 season. They are currently first in the South Atlantic League at 8-1, which is their best start since their inaugural year (1997). The Shorebirds opened up the 2018 campaign with dominant sweeps against both the Ashville Tourists and Hickory Crawdads, before dropping the series opener at the Lakewood Blue Claws. The Gulf Coast Orioles, Baby Birds with Great Potential

SARASOTA, FL – While watching the Gulf Coast League Orioles play their Tampa counterpart in the practice field behind glorious Ed Smith Stadium, a few ideas dawned on me.  Forgive me, but my primary job is Quality Assurance.  In other words, I criticize for a living.

Now I know that the Gulf Coast League is designed to be developmental in nature.  And I recognize that having hoards of fans bellowing and chanting may not be the best way to use the game as an instructional facility.  And I am keenly aware that Major League Baseball (and the nearby Bradenton Marauders) will never allow what I am about to propose.  But I can’t help thinking that the Orioles organization can make “Camden Yards South” an exciting place that people want to visit more often than just in March of every year.

Orioles Minor Leaguers of the Week: Zach Davies & Ivan De Jesus

Baltimore Orioles farmhands Zach Davies and Ivan De Jesus both had an outstanding week with their respective teams. Davies, a Bowie Baysox pitcher, threw 13 1/3 innings, giving up 11 hits, 3 ER, 2 walks, while striking out 13 batters and winning both of his starts on the week for the double-A affiliate of the Orioles.
