Cardinals beat Nationals 6-3 in series opener: 4/29/19

Washington, D.C.- After an 11th inning walk-off win at the hands of Matt Adams, the Nationals looked to keep the winning going. They started off with a three run lead, but the fourth inning stopped all productivity and was when the team’s last base hit was recorded.

-Harrison Bader was the first to get the St. Louis Cardinals on the board in the fifth inning with a solo home run. Following, Patrick Corbin loaded the bases with two outs. A ball that should have been caught got away from Kurt Suzuki, and Matt Carpenter came in to score, making the score 3-2 Nats.

-Cards took the lead shortly after with a Marcell Ozuna two RBI (4-3); another RBI by Jose Martinez made this a two run deficit. By the time the inning was over, the Cardinals put up six runs on Patrick Corbin, and that was the tale of this game.

-In the bottom of the eighth inning with the bases loaded, Brian Dozier popped up to end the inning, and that was the closest the Nats ever came to tying the game.

Washington is now 12-15 on the year and fourth in the NL East.
