Caps T.J. Oshie exits with injury in win against San Jose Sharks

During the second period of Washington’s game against the San Jose Sharks on Monday night the Caps found themselves on the penalty kill. Oshie put a weak hit on Sharks forward Logan Couture in the corner. With Oshie low and unbalanced, San Jose’s Joe Thornton comes in and hip checks Oshie’s head against the glass with his backside. Oshie fell to the ice and remained down in apparent pain before head athletic trainer Jason Serbus attended to him. Oshie then skated back to the bench on his own power, where he would then go straight to the locker room.

Oshie who has played in all 28 games so far, has 10 goals and 13 assists this season.

While the Joe’s hit may not receive any league discipline, a slash by San Jose’s Brenden Dillon on Caps rookie defenseman Madison Bowey “will get a look” from player safety. The NHL has been cracking down on slashes, by fining players and calling the slashing penalties more often this season. Dillon got a game misconduct and a five-minute major for the slash.

The Capitals would go on to win on a historic night for the great eight. Ovechkin’s goal gave him 578 for his career, moving him past Mark Recchi for 20th place all time. Ovechkin has played more than 700 fewer games than Recchi, he has a lot more records ahead of him to bring down on his path for his first Stanley cup. Caps win 4-1. They move on tomorrow to take on the struggling Chicago Blackhawks!
