Caps Lose to Carolina in Start of Home and Home Series

A bad start to the Capitals home and home series with the Carolina Hurricanes ending there five game win streak losing 3-1.  It was a sloppy game all around with the Caps getting out shot 33 to 22, and scoring zero goals on three power play attempts.

The power play was so sloppy a pass attempt to Ovechkin from Jon Carlson ended up getting tipped and landed on Eric Staals stick for a breakaway going through Holtby’s five-hole leading to Eric Staals 34 career shorthanded goal now making him the leader in short handed goals among current players.

Lars Eller scored the lone Caps goal continuing his four game point streak with assist from TJ Oshie and Christian Djoos.  The Caps where turnover machines giving up 12 turnovers and only turning the puck over only four times.  Carolina did go into tonight’s game Carolina had the fewest amount of shots against in the league.

Caps eventually gave up a shorthanded goal with less than two minutes remaining making the comeback more impossible. Caps do have a rematch tomorrow on Carolina, and hopfully coach Trozt can fire up the boys for tomorrows game.

What to expect differently tomorrow? I see Grubauer in net tomorrow since it’s a back to back game, and maybe a change in defense with Bowey out of the line up and Taylor Chorney in his place.

Bowey has struggled this year who is a -1 and was a -1 one on the ice again tonight.  I can also see TJ Oshie back on the top line after Ovechkin and Backstrom finishing the night with a -3. Oshie hasn’t been on the top line since he’s recovered from an concussion last month.
