Caps defeat Bruins for the eleventh consecutive time

Jakub Vrana scored his tenth goal of the season, Alex Ovechkin scored his twenty second goal, Chiasson chipped in two goals including a short handed dandy, and Nicklas Backstrom scored his sixth as the Capitals put down the Bruins 5-3.

Lars Eller ended up getting a puck past Khudobin early on to start the game, but it was called back due to an offsides review. You can’t assume your goaltender can steal you a game, and well Khudobin looked shaky early, and it got worse form there. Jakub Vrana managed to catch Matt Grezelcyk looking and raced past him to get an easy shot at Khudobin, and opened the scoring late in the first. 1-0 Caps this goal would stand!

The 2nd period saw Boston pull away in the shots department and showed what made them so good looking on that 3 game streak to begin with. On the power play, a solid passing play from Marchand to Beregeron found the back of the net to tied the game at 1-1. The Caps re-established the lead with a no look feed to Nicklas Backstrom, who finished with a tap into the net making the game 2-1.

Alex Chiasson got the next two. The first of his two was scored when a shot got rebounded, and he just never quit on the play, essentially forcing it past Khudobin. Again, practically undefended. 3-1 Caps. The second was scored on a back handed dandy that went in short handed. Only Wilson, Beagle and now Chiasson have short handed goals for the Caps this season. The score was 4-1.

Krejci and Bergeron (second goal of the game) would sandwhich an Ovechkin empty netter as the Caps would go on to win 5-3.

Braden Holtby ended with 33 saves in the win. Next up is four straight road games heading into the Christmas holiday starting with the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
