Caps bounce back against the Avs, break losing streak

The Washington Capitals beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2, in Colorado. At the end of the first period, the Caps, were down 2-0. Andre Burkovsky, opened the scoring for Colorado, early in the first. Mikko Rantaen scored a power play goal late in the first.

The Caps bounced back in the second and third periods. Nicklas Backstrom, scored on a power play for the Caps. In the third period, Tom Wilson, scored on another power play to tie the game. T.J. Oshie had the game winner with about 3 minutes left, deflecting a shot which went in.

At the first intermission, Backstrom, delivered a speech to the team, which proved to be the spark they needed. The team focused on defensive play, moving the puck around on offense, and special teams.

Braden Holtby, seemed to play like a man possessed. Holtby kept Colorado, scoreless, during a 5-3 power play. Holtby also stopped 32 of 34 shots allowed.

Alex Ovechkin is still at 698 career goals. Ovie has not scored in the past few games, so the chase for 700 is still going. The team has stopped trying to force the puck to Ovie, since he’s been guarded more heavily.

The Caps had to many penalties, going to the box four different times. This led to one Colorado goal, and a 5 on 3 opportunity. The Caps need work on being more disciplined in future games.

At the end of the day, it was nice to see the Caps, end the four game losing streak.
