Capitals vs Sabers. A Thursday night showdown

Today, the Capitals play the Sabers at Capital One Arena. Buffalo in their last five games have gone 1-4-0 while Washington has the same record. The Capitals are in 4th place in the East division while Buffalo is last. Now to look at the keys to winning this game.

The Capitals need to stay aggressive on the penalty kill. During Tuesdays game against Pitt, Alex Ovechkin broke up a 2-1 which turned the momentum the Capitals way. They also got the puck out of the defensive zone on first attempts in order to kill more time.

The team was also very disciplined in staying out of the penalty box. There were a couple penalties early on but once the game got going, the team seemed to be very disciplined. This allowed the team to play 5-5 hockey and keep all players rested during the game.

Finally, keep taking advantage of power plays and keeping the puck in the offensive zone. This tires out penalty killers, and goalies, and allows the team to have more opportunities to score. This energy needs to continue so that the team can take advantage of opportunities given to them.

The game is at 7:00 on NBC Sports Washington and can be heard on 106.7 fm
