Capitals vs. Islanders Preview: October 4, 2019

The Washington Capitals return home to face division rival New York Islanders with a new lineup and plans for the future. The Caps come hot off a thrilling win in St. Louis on opening day, and look to keep this momentum going forward. A game at home should acclimate them to the new season.

The Capitals will be starting rookie goalie Ilya Samsonov tonight. The 22-year-old goalie was called up from Hershey after Pheonix Copley was waived before this season. Samsonov went 20-14-2 with 90% saves in Hershey, so giving him some NHL experience should make him primed and ready for later on. The still high-scoring Capitals go up against what was the best defense in the league last year. With it still being so early on, both teams have much to play for. While the Caps have a win, this will be the Isles’ first game of the season.

Game will be at Capital One Arena. Puck drops at 7:30 pm.
