Capitals vs. Flyers Preview: March 5, 2019

The Washington Captials take on the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena, looking to keep or extend their lead on the division as the playoff push takes full effect. With only eighteen games remaining in the regular season, each point counts. The Caps look to come away with a win tonight, and maybe even add to Alex Ovechkin’s league-leading goal total–he’s at 45 now.

With 83 points, the Capitals are still in a tie with the Islanders for first in the Metropolitan Division. Though playoff hopes are high, they still have to maintain the division lead for better seeding. Though the Flyers are coming in hot, having won seven of ten and with 72 points, just five off of the Penguins for the last wild card spot. They too will need every game to count, so the Capitals must be prepared for a thrilling game.

This is only the second meeting of four between the two teams this season. On January 8, the Caps beat the Flyers at home 5-3 in convincing fashion. Braden Holtby with a win would become the second-fastest goalie to 250 wins, second only to Ken Dryden. But he has Claude Giroux and Oskar Lindblom to condend with first.
