Capitals Trade Bouchard To New York Rangers For Defenseman Kundratek

Earlier this afternoon, the Washington Capitals traded wing Francois Bouchard to the New York Rangers for defenseman Tomas Kundratek. Both players are expected to report to their respective new team’s minor league affiliate. Kundratek will be available to play tomorrow night in Hershey.

I like this trade. Kundratek has a lot of upside. He’s still only 21, so he has time to grow. I’ve only gotten to see him play once, but from what I saw, he reminds me of Jeff Schultz. He moves well for a defenseman, and has good instincts on defense. He has a very nasty slapshot, and if he can somehow make it more accurate, the Capitals could have a HUGE bargain. The Capitals are adding depth to a position where they certainly could use depth, especially with numerous of their defenseman having questionable injury histories. The Capitals need Kundratek a lot more than they need Bouchard, who the Capitals were not that high on anyway.

Best of luck Bouchard, hopefully you will get the chance to flourish in New York.

Here are Kundratek’s career stats and here’s his profile on “Hockey’s Future”. Thanks to my friend @gburneston4 for finding his profile.
