Capitals sign Mitchell

The Washington Capitals have announced that they have signed forward Garrett Mitchell to a one-year, two-way contract.  This mean Mitchell can play for the Capitals and the Hershey Bears.

Last season Mitchell played 17 games for the Bears recording two assist.  Mitchell is a developing prospect and is only 22 years old, he will likely play for the Bears next season.

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have signed forward Garrett Mitchell to a one-year, two-way contract, assistant general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Mitchell, 22, registered two assists and 44 penalty minutes in 17 games with the Hershey Bears (AHL) in 2013-14. The Regina, Saskatchewan, native has earned 47 points (21 goals, 26 assists) in 160 career AHL games with Hershey. Mitchell recorded 112 points (51 goals, 61 assists) in 264 games with the Regina Pats (WHL) from 2006-11, and served as the team’s captain during the 2010-11 season. The 5’11”, 186-pound forward was drafted by the Capitals in the sixth round, 175th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
