Capitals sign Landry and Moore

The Washington Capitals have signed Jon Landry and Mike Moore to one-year, two-way contracts.  Landry and Moore are both defensemen who will likely spend a lot of time with the Hershey Bears.  Moore has some NHL experience but has spent most of his career playing in the minors.  These are obvious depth moves by the Capitals.

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have signed defensemen Jon Landry and Mike Moore to one-year, two-way contracts, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Landry, 31, recorded 18 assists and 32 penalty minutes in 50 games with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season. The 6’3”, 220-pound defenseman spent the previous two seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL), posting 53 points (10 goals, 43 assists) and 84 penalty minutes in 106 games. In 158 career AHL games with Portland, Bridgeport and Iowa, Landry has registered 71 points (10 goals, 61 assists) and 118 penalty minutes.

Moore, 29, has scored one goal and registered seven penalty minutes in six career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks. He served as captain of the Providence Bruins (AHL) during the 2013-14 season and tallied 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) and 106 penalty minutes in 75 games. The 6’1”, 200-pound defenseman has earned the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year Award three times in his career (2009, 2010, 2014), awarded for his efforts in the community. Moore has registered 109 points (26 goals, 83 assists) in 378 career AHL games with Worcester, Milwaukee and Providence.
