The Washington Capitals announced they signed 2014 first round draft pick, Jakub Vrana to a three-year entry-level contract today.

Per Capgeek, Vrana’s three-year ELC is worth $2,775,000. He’ll make $832,500 at the NHL level or $70,000 at the AHL level.

The 18 year old was drafted 13th overall by the Capitals in the NHL Draft which took place in June. Vrana saw his first Capitals action when he attended the Development Camp, which ended on Saturday. During the Development Camp, Vrana made a positive impression with Capitals fans.

Vrana, a Prague, Czech Republic native, spent last year with Linkoping in the Swedish Hockey League spending half the season with the junior and senior teams. He recorded two goals and one assist for three points in 24 games with the senior team. With the junior team he recorded 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points in 24 games.

Vrana’s international experience has been representing the Czech Republic in the 2013 and 2014 World Junior Championships as well as the Under-18 World Championships from 2012-2014. Vrana ranked first with eight goals in the 2014 U-18 World Championships. He also came in third in points with 10. Vrana scored the quarterfinal overtime game winning goal which helped the Czech Republic capture a silver medal. In the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial, which the Czech Republic has co-hosted since 2005, Vrana led the Czech Republic to a bronze medal, its best finish at the tournament, with a goal and assist in the bronze medal game.

Jakub Vrana will be lent to Linkoping for the 2014-2015 season. If I had to make an educated guess, he will likely be playing in North America with the Hershey Bears in 2015-2016 if all goes as planned.
