Capitals sign C Lars Eller to a five year contract extension

The 28-year-old centerman was scheduled to become a unrestricted free agent this summer, now Lars has a home for five more season. Re-signing Eller means the Caps have its top three centers signed through at least the 2019-20 season. The Capitals traded for Eller before the 2016-17 season. Lars Eller’s deal is set to be a five-year, $17.5 million deal.

The deal however comes with some negatives as forwards Jay Beagle and Tom Wilson as well as defenseman John Carlson are all set to become free agents during the summer. The money now lessens the Caps opportunities to bring potentially all three players back next season.
