Capitals set to visit White House on Monday

The Washington Capitals will visit the White House on Monday, according to several reports. The Caps won the Stanley Cup last summer and will finally visit President Donald Trump at the White House.

It is sports tradition that championship teams visit the president at the White House. Several teams like the Philadelphia Eagles have refused the invite however.

The Capitals lead by captain Alex Ovechkin had an epic week of celebrating on the streets of Washington DC following winning the Stanley Cup.

The Caps have several American born players on their team. Defenseman Brooks Orpik, Matt Niskanen and John Carlson are American. Backup goaltender Phoenix Copley is from Alaska. Forward T.J. Oshie is considered an American hero from his Olympic contributions.

More to come as details come out.
