Bruno Leads Maryland Past Rutgers

Bruno Fernando had an outstanding game in the 61-51 win, scoring 18 points and grabbing a career-high 16 rebounds.  The big man threw down multiple impressive dunks, including a SC Top Ten alley-oop jam over the backboard. Bruno also hit his first career three pointer which got the student section going.

Anthony Cowan Jr. put in 14 points along with 6 assists and locked down on the other side of the floor all night.  Kevin Huerter finished with 11, giving him 23 consecutive games with double-digit scoring.

Eugene Omoruyi dropped 11 for Rutgers.  The leading scorer for the Scarlet Knights, Corey Sanders, was shut down by Cowan, Darryl Morsell and Huerter all night.  The Terps held him to 6 points on 3-14 shooting.

The entire game was all Maryland.  The Terrapins used two 10-0 runs to start both halves.  The fans were even chanting ‘this is boring’ for most of the game.  That all changed however once the they stopped playing defense and let Rutgers go on a big run late in the second half.

Maryland improves to 18-11 and 7-9 in conference with two games to go.  First, the Terrapins will try to snag a damn road win at Northwestern on Monday, then will host ranked Michigan on February 24th.

If the Terps can win the next two, they will find themselves with a single bye in the Big Ten tourney.  After winning the next two, Maryland will most likely play either Michigan State, Ohio State or Purdue.  A 20 win season, 9-9 in conference and ending the year on a nice run will help their Big Dance chances heavily.  Or they could just win the whole thing.  You never know.
