Bowie Baysox Weekly Recap

The Bowie Baysox start the week off with a 23-26 record, hoping for a winning week, as they travel to Richmond and host Trenton. Here is a recap from each of the games.

Game 1: 5/29/18: Baysox 7 Flying Squirrels 5

Lucas Long did not have the start he was looking for but the offense was there to back the pitching up. He last 5.2 innings while allowing 5 earned runs. Ademar Rifaela finished with 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Anthony Santander, Corban Joseph, and Cedric Mullins all had good days of their own at the plate, each finishing with multiple hits. The player of the game goes to Rifaela.

Game 2: 5/31/18: Baysox 6 Flying Squirrels 7

Tough loss as the Baysox lose in the bottom of the ninth. Brian Gonzalez started things off with a 5 inning, 7 strike out performance. He allowed just one earned run. Michael Kelly came in for the 6th to allow 4 earned runs in only .2 innings of work. Jay Flaa also allowed 2 earned runs. On the offense, Martin Cervenka and Anderson Feliz both homered, Salecedo and Santander both doubled, and Salecedo, Santander, and Rodriguez each finished with multiple hits in the game.

Game 3: 6/1/18: Thunder 7 Baysox 2

Hunter Harvey did not continue his streak of great short starts this season. In this one he just went 2 innings, allowing 6 earned runs. Despite the final outcome of the game, the bullpen was great. Zach Britton made his rehab appearance in Bowie, pitching one clean inning, Binford was great in 4 scoreless innings, and Luis Ysla allowed one earned run in 2 innings of work. Not much going for the Baysox offense as Cedric Mullins was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk. Anderson Feliz took his place in center field. He had 2 hits and a RBI, Mountcastle was the only other player with more than one hit. Erick Salecedo also made an error at short stop. Colby Rasmus also made his rehab appearance in Bowie, he went 0-3 with a strike out.

Game 4: 5/2/18: Thunder 1 Baysox 2

The final game in a short week, consisting of rainouts and off days, the Baysox score early which ends up being the difference in this one. Anthony Santander doubled in two runs in the bottom of the first. Keegan Akin once again was masterful as he went 5 scoreless innings, striking out 2. Branden Kline allowed the lone Trenton run in the 8th inning. Colby Rasmus also made his second rehab appearance, he went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts.

The Baysox finish this week in as deep of a hole as they were before. They are 3 games below .500 and only 5 games back in the Eastern League, Western Division. Next week should be a big week.
