Bowie Baysox Weekly Recap: 6/5-6/10

The Bowie Baysox start off the week just 3 games below .500. This coming week consists of games against the Portland Sea Dogs and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, which means the Baysox will face arguably the best prospect in baseball, in Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Here is a recap from each game this week.

Game 1: 6/5/18: Baysox 7 Sea Dogs 1

Jayson Aquino puts together a great outing. He lasted 6 scoreless innings, striking out 6. Luis Gonzalez came in for the save, going 3 scoreless innings, striking out 3. Offensively Ryan Mountcastle has a solid day at the plate, going 2-4 with a walk, Anthony Santander hit his 2nd home run of the season in Bowie, and Audrey Perez the DH put together 2 hits. The player of the game is the starting pitcher, Jayson Aquino.

Game 2: 5/6/18: Baysox 1 Sea Dogs 5

Lucas Long gets the ball to start, Long who is fairly consistent for the most part, did not have it today. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned. Jay Flaa also threw 1.2 scoreless innings. Ademar Rifaela drove in the only run, on a single to right field. He was the only one with multiple hits.

Game 3: 6/7/18: Baysox 7 Sea Dogs 5

The Baysox finally get Brian Gonzalez to adjust to the next level, in his 4th start. He earns his first win in Double-A with a quality start. He struck out 4, allowing 2, in 6 innings. Branden Kline got the save. Offensively for the Bowie Baysox, Ryan Mountcastle hit his 4th home run of the year, Audrey Perez also hit his 4th, a 3-run shot. D’Arby Myers also had multiple hits and Anthony Santander knocked in a run on a double in the 6th inning. The player of the game goes to Brian Gonzalez for a great outing and hopefully a permanent adjustment to the Eastern League.

Game 4: 6/8/18: Baysox 2 Fisher Cats 4

The bats go silent for most part as the team only scores 2 runs. Audry Perez homered for the 2nd straight day and Ryan Mountcastle had an RBI off a groundout. Christian Binford continued the stretch of solid starts from the Baysox rotation. He went 6 innings and only allowing 2 earned runs. Struggling Michael Kelly pitched to a loss allowing 2 crucial runs in 1.2 innings. Vladimir Guerrero Jr will not be playing in this series due to an injury to his knee apparently.

Game 5: 6/9/18: Baysox 4 Fisher Cats 1

Keegan Akin was great and he pitched yet another quality start for the Baysox rotation. He struck out 6 in 6 innings, while only allowing 1 earned run. The Orioles might want to look into a Keegan Akin promotion to Norfolk if he continues like this for the next few starts. Branden Kline came in for the 9 out save. Anthony Santander, Corban Joseph, and Aderlin Rodriguez all finished with multiple hits. The player of the game is Keegan Akin for a great outing.

Game 6: 6/10/18: Baysox 7 Fisher Cats 5

Jayson Aquino did not build off his last start as he lasted only 3.2 innings and allowing 7 earned runs. Despite the dreadful outing from Aquino the Baysox made a game out of it. The bullpen was great, as Flaa, Ysla, Love, and Luis Gonzalez all pitched scoreless innings, to keep the offense in the game. Aderlin Rodriguez was a perfect 3-3 including a home run and 2 RBIs, Corban Joseph also had a good day at the plate with 2 hits. Corban Joseph scored on a rare drop 3rd strike play in the top of the 6th but the Baysox couldnt complete the comeback.

The Baysox finished this week right where they left off, hopefully the offense gets hotter with maybe some promotions and Austin Hays returning soon. The pitching staff has been pitching great and hopefully they can keep it like this for the whole season. The Baysox will have a big home stand this coming week.
