Bowie Baysox Weekly Recap: 5/22-5/28

The Bowie Baysox kick this week off with a 19-23 record on the season. They hope to build momentum to play above .500 baseball this week. We’ve got you covered in a full slate of games this week. Here is a recap from this weeks games.

Game 1: 5/22/18: Curve 5 Baysox 8

The Baysox get a quality start from Keegan Akin as he goes 6 innings, allowing 3 earned runs, and striking out 7. The top of the lineup for Bowie was very productive as each of the top 5 hitters finished with at least one hit. Ryan Mountcastle was the most productive going 2-4 with 4 RBIs, he is the player of the game.

Game 2: 5/23/18: Curve 3 Baysox 9

Jayson Aquino comes one inning short of a quality start, he finished going 5 innings and allowing 3 earned runs, he kept the Baysox in the game. The bullpen was also shutdown as Branden Kline and Matthew Grimes combined for 4 scoreless innings. Just about the whole lineup produced somehow in this game, Mullins, Santander, and Joseph all had 3 hits, Rifaela homered as one of his two hits and Rodriguez also finished with 2 hits. Despite Rifaela’s home run, the player of the game has to go to Cedric Mullins who went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and a walk.

Game 3: 5/24/18: Curve 2 Baysox 5

The Baysox, looking to win 4 in a row, get a fantastic start from Lucas Long, he lasts 7 innings, allowing 1 earned run, and striking out 4. Luis Gonzalez also earned the 6 out save. On the offensive side Anthony Santander hit his 1st home run of the season with the Baysox in the first inning. Anderson Feliz was perfect at the plate going 3-3 with 2 RBIs and a walk. (HR, 2B) Cedric Mullins also added another hit, an RBI, and a walk. The player of the game is Anderson Feliz.

Game 4: 5/25/18: Baysox 4 Rumble Ponies 6

Brian Gonzalez struggled, lasting just 3 innings and allowing 6 earned runs, all coming off home runs. Reid Love and Luis Ysla combined for 5 scoreless innings. As for hitting, there was not much production throughout the whole lineup but Ryan Mountcastle hit his second home run of the season, Cedric Mullins collected 2 hits and an RBI. Martin Cervenka and Armando Araiza also collected RBIs.

Game 5: 5/26/18: Baysox 1 Rumble Ponies 3

A pitchers duel in Binghampton, New York, as Hunter Harvey starts off for the Baysox lasting 5 innings, allowing 1 earned run and striking out 7. A masterful start for Hunter Harvey and hopefully he can build off it and go even deeper into ballgames as the season progresses. Bowie scored their lone run on a Ryan Mountcastle double in the first inning. Cedric Mullins improved his average to .306 with a 3 hit performance.

Game 6: 5/27/18: Baysox 7 Rumble Ponies 0

Keegan Akin was fantastic in this one! Pitching 7 scoreless innings and striking out 10 batters! He allowed just 2 hits. Luis Gonzalez and Jay Flaa also pitched well. Cedric Mullins backed up the pitching with 4 hits(including a triple), Corban Joseph also had 3 hits. The player of the game has to go to Keegan Akin for 7 incredible scoreless innings.

Game 7: 5/28/18 Baysox 2 Rumble Ponies 3

Jayson Aquino was terrific in this one, going 7 innings, allowing 1 earned runs, and striking out 4. Luis Gonzalez gets the loss by going .2 innings and allowing 2 runs. It was a tough day on the offensive side… Cedric Mullins goes 0-4, Rifaela and Feliz also have tough days. The only bright spot was Mountcastle hit his 3rd home run of the year.

The Baysox are now 3 games below .500 but I think a lot of players are getting hot and these next few weeks will be successful for the Bowie Baysox.
