Blake Treinen Optioned to Triple-A; Xavier Cedeno Called Up

Xavier+Cedeno+sU7rDQ7ulcvm The Washington Nationals announced earlier today that they have optioned starting pitcher Blake Treinen to Triple-A Syracuse and have called up left handed reliever Xavier Cedeno. The move will give them eight relievers in their bullpen until Gio Gonzalez is activated off the DL which will likely be next Wednesday.

Treinen just came off yet another start that saw him only allow two runs in his five innings pitched against the San Francisco Giants. Treinen is currently holding 0-3 record with a very impressive ERA of 2.08 in his eight appearances in the majors which four of them were starts. The move of sending Treinen down is more to let him get starts under his belt because he would of have to been in the bullpen when Gio Gonzalez returns from the DL.

Xavier Cedeno will be the reliever taking Treinen spot on the active roster. The veteran left hander has a career ERA of 5.24 and has only one appearance in the major leagues this year where he went 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball against the Los Angeles Angles back on April 21st.
