Berkman and Sea Gulls Strive for 21st CAC Championship

Last night, #2 Salisbury University Sea Gulls hosted #3 Christopher Newsport University for the Capital Athletic Conference Semifinals.

Salisbury completely dominated the charts, starting with a goal from Zach Pompea (Corey Gwin assist) in the first 27 seconds of play. Salisbury was more successful with clear attempts, had more shot opportunities, and picked up more ground balls. Seven different Gulls contributed to the 14 goals (Josh Melton four, Pompea three).

One thing about Salisbury, is that they are very physical. The physicality did not affect SU until the fourth quarter when CNU scored on both of their man-up opportunities. Had Corey Berry (illegal body check) and Parker Stevens (slashing) not gotten called, the score could have been 14-1, instead of the final 14-3.

With this win, Coach Jim Berkman and the flock will travel to #1 York for the CAC Championship game.

Salisbury lost three games this season, and to York at York, was one of them. March 24, SU was ranked #7 while York was seeded #2. As the Gulls lost, they have yet to lose since then.

In the past 24 years we have come to know the Sea Gulls as the top of the food-chain, sitting at the top. Should they win on Saturday, this will be the 21st CAC Championship under Coach Berkman.

We look forward to cheering you on, Sea Gulls, on Saturday.
