Bears score a touchdown in route to their third straight win

Hometown hero’s night turned into a football game last night for the Hershey Bears. On a week where ESPN ran the 30 for 30 on Ric Flair, there were a lot of WOOOO’s happening in Hershey. 5:13 into the game the scoring would get started with a two on one with captain Garrett Mitchell, and recently assigned Liam O’Brien. Mitchell would take it himself on a nifty deke and slip the puck in five hole past Alex Lyons. The scoring in the first period wouldn’t end there as big forward Matias Bau would score his second of the season on the powerplay to make the game 2-0. However the Bears weren’t satisfied. Tyler Lewington would take a wrist shot from the point that would trickle through the pads. As Lyons twisted around he pushed the puck himself across the goal line giving Lewy his first goal of the season.

The second period would see some feistiness and penalties, which neither team would convert on. Copley stood tall on multiple occasions through the first two periods. at 9:19 of the second period, the Wayne train, Wayne Simpson would score his fifth goal of the season to extend the Bears lead to 4-0. Chris Bourque would get his second point of the night and fifteenth assist of the season to help extend his league high points in the AHL.

The Bears wouldn’t be through as the early part of the third period was dominated by the Bears. 4:09 into the third, Riley Barber would score his third goal of the season on a sniper shot to the top right corner of the net. Bau would continue his great performance with his first two goal game of the season with another powerplay goal making the score 6-0 Hershey.

Pheonix Copley’s shut out bid would be stopped with eight minutes left in the third period. Liam O’Brien took a delay of game penalty for clearing the puck over the glass in the defensive zone setting up a powerplay for the Lehigh-Valley Phantoms. Greg Carey would score his fifth goal of the season on a back door feed that hung Copley out to dry. 6-1 would be the score, and the final of the game. The Bears were two for three on the powerplay, while they were four for five on the penalty kill. A great night overall for the Bears.

Tonight the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins come to town for a five pm puck drop at the Giant Center in chocolate town. Last time the Bears and Pens played the Bears left with a shootout win to start the three game winning streak.
