Bears head to rival penguins for a Sunday matinee

The Bears put up six goals on Friday night against the Rochester Americans Friday night to earn a point to start the weekend. After a three goal first period to lead 3-0, the Bears would squander 5 unanswered goals before getting a goal of their own to make the game 5-4. The second period would end with the Amerks getting a sixth goal.

With a 6-4 score not in favor of the Bears they would need a strong third period. Hershey would get just that. Goals from defenseman Lucas Johansen and Hubert Labrie the bears would tie the game.

Both teams played a game of cat and mouse in overtime on which neither team would score. The bears would score once in the shootout, from Wayne Simpson. It would not be enough as two of three Amerks would score and finish off the Bears in the skills competition.

Hershey would move to the Giant Center to take on the 7-3 Toronto Marlies. The Bears would lose Connor Hobbs, and Tyler Lewington to injury as well as Garrett Mitchell during this game. Lewington and Mitchell both returned from their injuries. Garrett Mitchell would ironically be the only goal scorer for the Bears as they fell 4-1 in a game of penalties and turnovers from the Bears.

Because of these injuries, just ahead of today’s game with the penguins, defender Kris Bindulis has been recalled to the Bears from the ECHL affiliate the South Carolina Stingrays.
