Baysox Weekly Recap: 5/1 to 5/7

The Bowie Baysox start this week with an even record of 11-11. They look to have a successful week, hoping a couple players can get hot at the same time. Here is a recap of this week.

Game 1: 5/1/18: Bowie 7 Erie 3

Keegan Akin is really starting to get into his groove at the Double-A level. Tonight he goes 6 innings, 2 earned runs, and 12 strikeouts!! The offense tonight was there to back him up with Rifaela, Hays, and Joseph all homering. The offense puts together 14 hits and every player in the starting lineup contributed in some way. A great team victory. The player of the game goes to Corban Joseph (3-5, 2 RBI, HR, 2B)

Game 2: 5/2/18: Bowie 9 Erie 6

The offense is starting to heat up and come together as a team. Lucas Humpal starts off the game lasting just 3.1 innings, allowing 5 earned runs. But the offense stayed focused and ended up eventually finishing the job in the 10th inning. Several clutch hits throughout the game were vital for the Baysox in this one. Player of the game goes to the third basemen, Anderson Feliz who goes 3-6 including a double and a triple.

Game 3: 5/3/18: Akron 15 Bowie 0

The Baysox get beat at home in just a dreadful game all around for Bowie. Hunter Harvey doesn’t pitch well for the first time this season… going 4 innings and allowing 4 earned runs. The bullpen wasn’t much better and the defense wasn’t helping. The defense gives up 4 unearned runs to make it even worse. Despite the shutout, the offense scraps together 11 hits which is respectable.

Game 4: 5/4/18: Akron 18 Bowie 2

Another dreadful game for the Baysox. The Rubberducks score 8 runs in the first inning which put the Baysox in a terrible position in their first at bat. Jonathan Schoop makes a rehab appearance but goes 0-2 with a strikeout. The offense only puts together 5 hits and no team can win baseball games like that.

Game 5: 5/5/18: Akron 4 Bowie 2

The Baysox lose but stay in the game the whole time. John Means goes 6.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on a couple solo homers and an early mistake by Means. Cedric Mullins hits his 5th homer of the year and Corban Joseph hits an RBI single.

Game 6: 5/6/18: Akron 4 Bowie 1

Keegan Akin goes 5.2 innings allowing 3 runs (2 ER) while striking out 5. It was not the best start from Keegan Akin but he still kept the offense in the ball game but the offense only got 4 hits and 1 run off of a fielders choice. The Baysox are swept in the 4 game set at home. They hope to bounce back on the road against the Curve.

Game 7: 5/7/18: Bowie 2 Altoona 0

Jayson Aquino pitches a gem going 7 innings allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk with 7 strikeouts and no runs. Luis Gonzalez gets the 6 out save, allowing no hits in 2 innings. Corban Joseph once again continues make something happen, homering for the 4th time this year. Mike Yastrzemski singles to score the other run. Corban Joseph is the player of the game going 1-4 with a solo home run.

The Baysox finish the week strong but 1 game below .500. They look next week obviously to play better but also to stay consistent in all aspects of the game. Every time the offense gets back on track the pitching falls apart and vice versa. This week the Baysox need to focus on changing that up.
