Baltimore Ravens report card versus San Diego Chargers

Quaterback– Joe Flacco was limited to mostly dump-off passes and had trouble finding receivers down field. He threw two interceptions when the Baltimore Ravens really needed him to get points. Grade C+

Running back– Ray Rice averaged 5.7 yards a carry, but was not given the ball enough. Rice also had nine receptions for 55 yards. Ricky Williams saw few carries but was solid with three rushes for 20 yards. Grade B

Receivers– Torrey Smith had a good game with six receptions and one touchdown. Anquan Boldin had one big reception until the last drive.  He finished the day with two receptions. Flacco and Lee Evans need to work on their timing together.  Evans was targeted four times and did not have a reception. Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson both had three catches. Grade B

Offensive line– Bryant McKinnie got scorched on the left side and failed to give Flacco time to find receivers down field. Flacco was sacked six times and Tyrod Taylor was sacked once in cleanup duty. Flacco was left to a lot of dump off passes because of the lack of time. Grade F

Defensive line– The defensive line registered zero sacks, not something they are used to doing. The Ravens rarely hit Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. They did however stop the Chargers running game for the most part. Grade C+

Linebackers– Ray Lewis was back for the Ravens and led the team in tackles with ten.  Getting beaten in coverage, he did not have his best game. Jarret Johnson had a good game and Terrell Suggs was double teamed most of the game. Grade C+

Secondary– Jimmy Smith was scorched in his first career start and Ed Reed looked like he was afraid to tackle at times. Cary Williams had seven tackles and had tight coverage but was still beaten. Overall, a bad day for the secondary that got exposed by the lack of pass rush. Missing Lardarius Webb did not help. Grade F

Special teams– Billy Cundiff is obviously hurt.  He missed a 36-yard field goal, a distance that he is automatic with. Sam Koch was good as always and David Reed had a 47-yard return late in the game. Grade C

Coaching staff– When the team gets destroyed the coaching staff has to take some of the blame. The defense let the team down this game and some of that blame goes to Chuck Pagano, who might have been out coached. The team was not prepared for this game. Grade D
