Baltimore Orioles versus Boston Red Sox recap 2/27/2019

The Baltimore Orioles visited the rival Boston Red Sox this afternoon in game five of the spring campaign.

The Red Sox started the game out with a bang, snagging an immediate 1-0 following a lead off homerun by Boston’s star Centerfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. This would be the only run scored off of Orioles starter Gabriel Ynoa, who lasted two innings giving up two other hits and recording two strikeouts

Chance Sisco showcased his power today, blasting a two run shot in the top of the second, plating shortstop Richie Martin who reached on a walk. Then in the top of the fourth, Sisco went yard again in his next at bat, again scoring Martin after a single. Two at bats, two 2-run homers for the kid Sisco. He now has three long balls in the young spring.

Thirty-three year old right handed Bo Schultz would come in for one shaky inning of relief work for the Orioles in the home half of the fourth. Schultz let up four hits, including a three run bomb to left field by Boston’s third baseman Michael Chavis.

Richie Martin would keep his bat hot in the top of the 5th, scoring youngsters Rio Ruiz and Renato Nunez off of a double to deep centerfield to take a 6-4 lead. Still in the top of the fifth, Chance Sisco kept his already great day going by knocking in, you guessed it, Richie Martin again on a single to record his fifth RBI of the day.

Oriole pitchers Paul Fry, Brandon Kline, and Tanner Scott would each toss one scoreless inning to maintain the Orioles 7-4 lead heading into the 9th inning.

Enter the top of the ninth. Marcus Walden would shut down the Orioles in order for the second straight inning. Orioles Prospect Dillon Tate would take the mound in the bottom of the ninth for his second inning of work. That’s when it got a little bit interesting.

Dillon Tate would let the RedSox climb back to within one run following two RBI doubles by Boston’s Tzu-Wei Lin and catcher Oscar Hernandez. Tate would eventually earn his first save in a nail biting 7-6 victory.

The Orioles pitchers today showed some good stuff, resulting in nine total strikeouts and only four walks. Paul Fry would pick up the win for the Orioles (1-0), while Colton Brewer took the loss for the RedSox (0-1).

The Baltimore Orioles will take on the Philadelphia Phillies, Thursday at 1:05 Pm, at Spectrum Field in beautiful Clearwater, Florida
