Baltimore Orioles versus Boston Red Sox recap 3/2/2019

The Baltimore Orioles stormed the field this afternoon to take on the Boston Red Sox in their spring training home, JetBlue Park at Fenway South.

Mike Wright took the mound for the Orioles in his second start the spring. Much like his first outing back on Tuesday, Wright was lights out. The twenty-nine year old right hander tossed three perfect innings, letting up just three hits while striking out two

In the top of the fourth inning, the Orioles would take an early 2-0 lead from a double off the bat of youngster Steve Wilkerson, scoring Drew Jackson and utility man Jace Peterson.

The Boston Red Sox would put up their only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Xander Bogaerts sent a ball over the left field fence, off of Orioles pitcher Yefry Ramirez to cut Baltimore’s lead in half to 2-1

Yefry Ramirez came in relief of Mike Wright to start the fourth inning. Ramirez also threw three solid innings, giving up only a solo homer and striking out two Red Sox batters.

With Drew Jackson and Jace Peterson on base again in the top of the fifth, Carlos Perez would add on two more RBIs on a double to deep right center, extending the Orioles lead to 4-1.

The Orioles would continue their hot offense in the sixth inning, taking a 5-1 lead from a RBI single by Richie Martin. A short time later Martin would be plated by another single off the bat of Drew Jackson, giving the Orioles a 6-1 lead.

In the visiting half of the seventh inning, Dj Stewart would come to the plate with two men on. Stewart then doubled to center, adding two more late game runs to make the Orioles lead 8-1.

Paul Fry would throw one perfect inning of relief in the seventh, striking out two of the tree batters he faced.

The Orioles would add one more insurance run in the ninth inning, and pitcher Evan Phillips would hold the Red Sox off in the eight and ninth innings, securing the Orioles 9-1 Victory. The Orioles have now beaten the Red Sox twice on their own field this spring.

Mike Wright would record the win for the Orioles (1-0) while Colten Brewer would take his second loss to the Orioles this spring (0-2).

The Baltimore Orioles next contest will be Sunday, March 3rd, as they take on the Detroit Tigers at the Orioles spring home at Ed Smith Stadium at 3:05 PM
