Wojciechowski one hits Red Sox, Orioles take series: Recap 7/21/19

The Baltimore Orioles came into today’s game looking to take their first series from Boston since 2017, and largely in part to Asher Wojciechowski’s phenomenal start and a solid offensive game, the Birds took game three 5-0.

Asher Wojciechowski started today’s game and never looked back. Wojciechowski tossed a beautiful 7.1 innings, striking out 10 batters, and not allowing his only hit until the seventh inning.

It was all Orioles all day. Trey Mancini started it off against former Orioles starting pitcher Andrew Cashner, with a solo home run in the first inning. This gave the O’s a 1-0 lead.

Chris Davis would double in the second inning, scoring Dwight Smith Jr. This extended the Orioles’ lead to 2-0.

Trey Mancini, who already homered once, decided that it was not enough and blasted a two-run homer in the third. Mancini’s 21st long ball on the year put the Orioles up 4-0.

After his second home run of this game, Mancini has now had two multi-home run games in his last four and now has seven on the season.

The Orioles would not score again until the eighth, when Jonathan Villar homered to go up 5-0.

Following a beautiful start by Asher Wojciechowski, the bullpen followed up with 1.2 scoreless innings between Paul Fry and Mychal Givens.

The Orioles shutdown the Red Sox, shutting them out 5-0 and only allowing one hit all game.

Our MSB Orioles Player of the Game is Asher Wojciechowski. Holding the Boston Red Sox hitless for six full innings, while striking out 10 is no easy task. Wojciechowski had the start of his career, setting his team up for a series victory.

The Orioles travel to Arizona to take on a familiar face in Adam Jones and the Diamondbacks Monday at 9:40 p.m. ET.
